Prof Vern Singhroy Ph.D., P. Eng

Vern Singhroy is an internationally recognized expert on radar remote sensing applications. He was the chief scientist of the Canadian Space Agency RADARSAT Constellation Mission which was launched in June 2019. Vern received his Ph.D. in environmental and resource engineering. He is a professional engineer. Dr. Singhroy published over 300 papers in scientific journals, proceedings, and books. He was the editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of Remote Sensing and is the co-editor of four books, including The Encyclopedia of Remote Sensing. He recently edited a book on Advanced Remote Sensing for Infrastructure Monitoring. Dr. Singhroy has been a Professor of Earth Observation at the International Space University and is an adjunct professor in Earth Sciences at the University of New Brunswick. Vern received the prestigious Gold Medal Award from the Canadian Remote Sensing Society and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to Canadian and international remote sensing applications and education.

Richard Singhroy MSc.

Richard Singhroy is a marine spatial planner and scientist with a multidisciplinary background. He specializes  in marine and social ecology, GIS, earth observation and science communication.

Prof. Dr. Vern Singhroy's remarkable career spans over four decades, solidifying his status as a  global authority in remote sensing applications. As the President of EOSPATIAL Inc. in Ottawa,  Canada, he leverages satellite imaging technology to address critical challenges in infrastructure  monitoring, environmental assessment, and resource management. His contributions have  profoundly impacted both the scientific community and practical applications worldwide. His  achievements are:  

Leadership in Space Missions:

Served as the Chief Scientist for the $1.3 billion RADARSAT Constellation  Mission (RCM) of the Canadian Space Agency. Launched in June 2019, the  RCM's three radar satellites have significantly advanced global Earth observation. 

Global Influence:

Contributed to remote sensing projects in over 30 countries, supported by  Canada's international partnerships.  


 Delivered training programs for the global standard of remote sensing practices.  

Academic Excellence:

Earned a Ph.D. in Environmental and Resource Engineering (State University of  New York, Syracuse) alongside degrees in Geography (McMaster University,  University of Manitoba). He is a licensed professional engineer.


Held academic positions at institutions such as Professor at the International  Space University in France and as an adjunct professor at the University of New  Brunswick and the University of Ottawa.  

Scientific Contributions:

 Published over 300 scholarly papers and contributed as editor-in-chief for the  Canadian Journal of Remote Sensing.


Edited works, including the "Encyclopedia of Remote Sensing" and a Springer  volume on “Advanced remote sensing techniques for infrastructure monitoring.”  

Professional Experience:

 Senior Scientist at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (1995–2020).
